Bambu Lab H2S is a HUGE deal!
The brand new Bambu Lab H2S has just been announced by Bambu Lab and this is a bigger deal than you might think. This isn’t just a “lesser H2D” - It’s the new desktop 3D printer benchmark.
There’s been leaks and indications that a “less grand” version of the Bambu Lab H2D was coming. For most of us, we expected an H2D without the laser, heated chamber, the dual extrusion system and a slightly lower price.
Instead we got more or less all the bells and whistles, excluding the 40w laser and dual extrusion, for just $200 more than “the current flagship CoreXY 3d printer” from Bambu Lab!
The Bambu Lab H2S is not just “The Bigger X1C”
It’s the new benchmark for the desktop 3D printing market. With advancements on almost all parameters, the H2S isn’t just 220% bigger than the X1C, with 340 x 320 x 340 mm build volume, it’s faster (at 1’000mm/s travel and 20’000 mm/s2) and hotter (350℃ hotend and actively heated chamber to 65℃).
The H2S comes packed with 23 sensors and 3 onboard cameras (without the Nozzle camera the H2D has) for monitoring every aspect of the 3D printing process. Speaking of precision, the H2S can also be fitted with the ultra-accurate vision encoder plate to achieve up to 50μm motion accuracy.
The Bambu Lab PMSM Servo motor for better extrusion
Professional - While Accessible
The H2S checks all the boxes for both reliable and simple 3D printing to more advanced materials. The large volume benefits hugely by being actively heated (And plenty filtered with G3, H12, Coconut shell carbon filtering) in combination with hardened steel nozzles and extrusion gears.
Inside of the extruder is the PMSM Servo Motor System an in-house innovation from Bambu Lab, achieving 67% more extrusion force than conventional extruders at extreme resolution. This all means the extrusion of filament is not only fast, but reliable and precise enough to adjust the pressure correctly.
The H2S is a more suitable printer for anyone wanting to print both abrasive and materials like Nylon (PA), PC and ABS that tends to warp. Specially in combination with AMS 2 Pro or AMS HT!
If that wasn’t enough, Bambu Lab have included “industrial grade” features like Auto hole/contour compensation that compensates for material shrinkage to ensure incredible mechanical tolerances. When you design a part with a certain fit, this ensures you achieve it without playing around with offsets.
Make it a personal manufacturing hub
The H2S is available as a complete personal manufacturing solution in the H2S Laser Full Combo configuration. This variant integrates laser engraving and cutting, digital cutting, and precision drawing capabilities within the same compact enclosure, complete with laser-safe green glass windows and other safety features, just like the H2D.
The Bambu Lab H2S pricing is exciting!
With a starting price of $1249 - (Use my affiliate link to check current price and availability here) the H2S is actually cheaper than the MSRP of the Creality K2 Plus at $1299.
The H2S AMS Combo starts at $1499 and will be available on launch together with the 10W H2S Laser full combo for $2099.
While its true that the H2S and Creality K2 Plus are miles apart, the K2 Plus and the $3519 2-toolhead enclosed Prusa XL were the only “real” alternatives if you wanted CoreXY, enclosed, multi-color 3D printing larger than what Bambu Lab offered.
Why the H2S is better than the X1C
The X1C launched at $999 and with adjustment for inflation from 2022, that is around 1’099 today, meaning the X1C, packed with all its features, and larger is “just” $150 more expensive in reality. For a whopping 220% larger volume and more advanced sensors, actively heated chamber and more, this is actually a remarkable price.
One of the great “hidden” benefits of the H2S is the quick-swappable hotends we see on H2D and A1 series. The X1C uses an older system that requires connectors and more expensive hotend spares, so this not only speeds up maintenance, but offers quicker swapping of different types.
We also expect the High flow hotend found on the H2D to be available for the H2S. This adds up to 65 mm³/s flow instead of the regular 40mm³/s
Obviously more cameras and “lessons” learnt in form of better reliability, wear and tear makes this incredible interesting.
