TwoTrees SP-5 V3

TwoTrees have just released their new SP-5 V3 CoreXY 3D Printer for preorder. With a large 300 x 300 x 330mm build volume, Is this the larger Bambu Lab 3D Printer we never got?

A larger Bambu Lab P1P clone

Looking at the geometry, this looks like a standard CoreXY 3D Printer.

A construction with extruded profiles instead of sturdy panel construction like the Bambu lab P1P might look a bit strange, but the linear bearings in all axis (including Z) actually looks promising for robustness.

The boxy design is however much easier to enclose for those who wants to.

However, digging a bit deeper it looks like the TwoTree SP-5 V3 uses a bit “older” components for interface, motherboard and firmware. Not saying it’s not going to perform, but it won’t “feel” late 2023.

Features for fast printing?

TwoTrees mention “anti-interference performance” with it’s Marlin firmware. It’s unclear if this is some type of input shaping or vibration dapening to enable quality fast 3D Printing.

The specifications say up to 300mm/s printing speeds, but it’s hard to say for sure.

Looking at some of the printing examples in videos and pictures, it looks OK, but not as fast as a Creality K1 MAX, with similar build volume (but double the price).

Highlighted features of SP-5 V3 3D Printer

The quite “barebone” SP-5 V3 don’t really offer anything crazy in terms of features. The large build volume is very nice, together with a strong Core XY construction.

Hotend appears to use normal “standard” MK6 nozzles or similar, that are cheaper to consume compared to Bambu Lab.

Who is the TwoTrees SP-5 V3 for?

I haven’t had the change to review or test this 3D Printer yet, so I’m unsure about it’s fast printing claims and quality of results.

But it appears to target Creality K1 Max, with a lower price tag. Or potential Bambu Lab P1P customers who think they want to go bigger and don’t need AMS.

I’m a bit skeptical due to the construction and lacking “marketing” talking about the input shaping, klipper firmware or anything really, that confirms the high speed printing claims.

I can’t find any reviews for the SP-5 V3, only the “little brother” Sp5, which is a bit different without a heated bed for example, but that machine was seen as a good platform to make upgrades from, as you get further into 3D Printing. It appears to me the bigger brother SV-5 V3 already did most of those upgrades.
